Very strange, when I put the same 256mb sticks in both slots one at a time, the system reads 256mb but when I put both sticks in, it still reads only 256mb, I have tried other sticks, same deal. I set the bios to default, same deal, what gives?

I remember having that issue with my T30. I didn't know that it has a issue until the laptop break down. Because it was a second hand pc I didn't the configuration on it, so when I saw that I have 2x 256mb dimm stick it was a shock to me.

I remember T30 series was affected by a memory slot failure but I'm not sure this apllied in your particular case.
