I thought the sky might be falling when I read this article, but according to some sources in Taiwan IBM might release a non-black colored notebook [:0]
After over a decade of offering a choice in color of matte-black, or matte-black, it's going to be a red letter day when we see a blue, or grey or maybe far out colored style notebook from IBM

Noooooo! I love the black of the Thinkpads! [ ]

Sounds okay. So long as they didn't actually stop making black TPs, I'd say why not? It can't be very hard or expensive to make different colours. The only downside would be if a great model came out and they weren't offering it in black. That would be a shame.
There's too many cheap-looking notebooks around. Blinding white Apple ibooks? No thanks. Shiny silver Powerbooks? No. Dell Inspirons with stupid blue plastic inserts? No! Toshibas with two-tone black and silver? NO! Give me a plain black TP any day -
I agree with jmd - one of the things I love about IBM laptops (personally), is that they're pretty much the least tacky of what's out in the market. Simple, but effective, would be the best description.

I agree, black suits me just fine. I don't think IBM would dare get rid of black as the main color, and I'm not so sure offering different colors is a good idea. Apple got burned because its hard to predict what color consumers will choose and if you make a pink computer and nobody in their right mind will buy it then you've wasted production of those machines...and companies usually refuse to offer discounts on any product just because it's not a popular color.

i prefer the "Henry Ford" model of thinkpad design: you can have it in any color you want, as long as it's black. [ ]
