Can you purchase a warranty on a laptop after the fact, and also if purchased from another retailer? I am tempted to order from pcmall or something, get the laptop before I go out to Cape cod, and then deal with an extended warranty when I get back, but preferably through IBM/Lenovo and not some 3rd party.

I think it depends on the country. I know that you can buy extended warranty after the fact (I bought mine 7 months after my laptop purchase) in Canada. As for US, many have said it is available only within 30 days after purchase.

does it cost premium to this type of extension?

also, if i bought my T60 in the states, but now live in Canada (though I still can go back to parent's place in the states), where should i get a warranty upgrade? I recently called in for a new keyboard in Canada and got it, despite the fact that i bought the machine from the states.

    any ideas?

You can extend your warranty so long as there isn't something
wrong with the existing machine. You would add post warranty service
    by calling the number below.

This is the answer I got from Lenovo few weeks ago.

As stated above, you can extend your warranty by calling them.

Also, I think you can extend your warranty from visaperks.ca.

it costs $164CDN to extend the warranty from 1 year to 3years from

visaperks; the original price over $200CDN.

You have to pay extra for onsite warranty.
