I have a brand new X61 that I got Wed & spent a bunch of time configuring it...all was fine until yesterday afternoon. By accident (when configuring a second Ultrabase & external IBM keyboard with FPR at the office), conflicting software accidentally got installed: IBM Client Security Software 5.4x. I didn't catch it until it was too late & if, of course, messed things up with the new ThinkVantage 8.0 Client Security Program/etc. First thing I did was do a System Restore; it hung & didn't work. Then, I tried to just Uninstall IBM CSS 5.4x; that hung & didn't work. Tried multiple times, then I decided to uninstall CSS 8.0 & Recovery/Repair 4.0 (both of which came configured new); didn't make a difference. I then went in & manually deleted all the CSS 5.4x files I could find along with whatever related Registry files I could locate, but there must be some Registry key or something that still shows it being installed? Mind you, I have little regedit experience, so that's where I need some help. Lenovo Tech Support will not do Registry help (already spoke with them). I'm running Vista Business (32-bit). I don't have Restore Points for Vista (other than the initial one I tried yesterday with no luck). Any expirienced RegEdit-user advice would be much appreciated! Alternatively, I am prepared to completely re-install Vista (or should I do a Vista repair first?)...not sure how to do that b/c noV Vista re-install disk was provided by Lenovo; apparently, it is stored on a separate Partition on my HD...worst case, I can call Lenovo for help on that unless anybody has quick advice how to handle that. This is my first experience with Vista & I considerate myself to have a moderate level of tech experience, so please advise accordingly. If anyone wants to contact me by email or phone, I can provide that info. I'm hopeful there is a non-reinstall fix! If we can clean up the Reg issue(s) related to the IBM CSS 5.4x, I should be able to reinstall CSS 8.0/etc & be ok.
BTW, the laptop is running fine otherwise except that it won't completely power off/standby/restart...something (related I'm sure) is screwing it's ability to power off completely up. If I can resolve the former issue(s) then hopefully this will rectify itself; if not, a Vista repair (or complete re-install)? I just can't keep messing with this issue forever (which I've been doing for 12 of the past 24 hours now). Of course, I brought it on myself & hadn't done a full system backup since I didn't have everything completely configured & transferred yet. Good fun! Many thanks in advance for any input you might be able to provide...
