Basically, IBM is giving deals out for their non-dothan notebooks like the ones below...
ThinkPad T42 (2378FZU) with upgrade to 3-yr Protection Plan, Wireless Router, Carrying Case, Security Lock...Free Shipping $2,799.00
ThinkPad T42 (2378FZU) with MS Office 2003 SBE, Carrying Case, Security Lock and upgrade to 3-yr On-site Service...Free Shipping $2,899.00
For the exact same config + dothan it's $3,079.00 without all the goodies (carrying case, warranty, shipping, router...)
A carry case is (60$), warranty for three years (150$ or so), router (100$) + 200$ because it's not dothan...
that's like a 400$ difference for 1mb of cache...
question is, is it worth it?

I got a t41 23739FU(comes with 3 year warranty) from ibm.ca last month from their clearance section. $2500 + tax. Free express shipping. If you can wait, try to wait for a better deal..or go ebay.

you didn't really answer my question but heh...
clearance center is refurbished stuff, I wonder if they don't resell the returned laptops (burned pixels etc) for a lesser value. -
I think it is a total rip off when compared to the US prices. I rather buy from ebay or bill on thinkpads.com.
And my unit is not refurbished...it is just clearance item(infact my unit was way cheaper than the refurbished units they had...no idea why). This is a brand new t41 with 3 year warranty. Original MSRP $3800.
1.7ghz, 512mb, ati 9000, 60gb 7200rpm, 802.11 a/b/g, bluetooth, 14.1" (1400x1050). -> $2499 + tax and free shipping.
