I just received my lenovo ideapad Y510 today. I got 4gbs of memory in it, but the laptop only came with 32 bit vista installed. I have a 64 bit vista premium oem disk that I used when I built my laptop. How do I get this installed on my laptop?

It said I couldn't run the program under my current operating system when I tried just popping the 64 bit OS in.

That's because you have to boot from it. :p
Restart your computer with the dvd in the drive, and press any key at the prompt. ;)

Well my lenovo now has my 64 bit Vista on it now. But I can't find the right drivers for my nvidia 8600m GT 256mb. All I can find is drivers for 32 bit vista, but not 64 bit. Could anyone please post a link? What else do I need to find and install now that I did a complete clean boot of my lenovo?

    1. Thats a lot of downloads. A lot of xp stuff is scattered through there as well. I also couldn't find the nvidia drivers I needed for the 8600m GT. So by installing my 64 bit vista on my laptop, I have to download things just to make stuff like my bluetooth and usb ports work?

    2. Is there a way I can revert back to the 32 bit with all my stuff working properly like it was when I first turned it on?

Yes, use the recovery disks you created when you received your computer!

1.) Yes, you will need to download all the drivers for the hardware to work. Not a big deal, is time consuming and you must follow the instructions carefully. Read the "readme" files and reboot the machine after each driver is installed, even if you are not forced to. Check out Stallen's clean install guide -> Here

    2.) What Chanchin said.

I didn't make any recovery disks.

EDIT: Would my onekey recovery work?
