I think I finally have my dream laptop completed. My clean install of Vista Ultimate 64bit is done. I have installed all my drivers and porgrams. My screen is calibrated. And I have my setting tuned in. I think I am done. I was excited when my laptop came but it actually sucked I was in for 2 days of doing boring installes and pulling out usless programs. Now I am excited I can now use my fully functional costomized ThinkPad VICTORY!

Have fun.

No better feeling than suffering through your first clean install and knowing you can beat a microsoft Os into submission.

exactly.. as soon as i get mine.. im redoing it.. and then im going to make an image of it on my home pc.. so if i ever have to do it again.. i can just clone it back..

oh man...lucky you!....im still waiting for that feeling...my t61p should be here in two days...damn lenovo canada and its painfully long shipment times
-
niice. Now make sure you image-bakcup your drive with a program like acronis true image to make sure you can get it perfectly to that state whenever you feel like a spring cleaning.
-
Also, try giving Ubuntu a shot. That feeling is multiplied by 5 when you get a super tweaked out version of linux dual booting on your t61

With the amount of things that I've learned about doing clean installs, tweaking, virus-protection, etc., its going to take me about two or three days to do all that stuff to. That's what it takes if we all want our machine to run well, I guess. I know how excited you must be to finally get to do what you want with it. I'm glad that it seems the issue with your pixels has been resolved. Let us know how things go.

When I did my last image restore, I used my image files on my external hard drive and let the program to its wonders using those files. When he speaks of putting the image on the desktop, I think he simply means for backup purposes similar to what I just mentioned.
I had no prior backup imaging experience and I picked up a version of Acronis True Image. Its pretty much fool proof and very user friendly. I highly suggest checking it out. -

how im gonna do it though is pull the hard drive out of my thinkpad once i got it done and use a ide/sata/usb adapter and put the image on my home computer on my backup hard drive.. so if ever was a problem i could just pull the hard drive again and clone it back..
I think it's done.
