I went to reinstall vista ultimate x64 after having run xp for the last 6-7 months (mainly out of dire need for stability). Figured I would give it another shot using an SP1 integrated disk to see if SP1 fixed any of the issues I was having.
After install the OS, I noticed that the chipset installer utility is no longer available for download from intel. I went ahead and used the Lenovo update tool to grab the chipset software (it shows up as like intel chipset installer 6 or something to this effect). After a reboot and 5-10 minutes of messing around crash - still referencing the turbo memory. This seemed super odd to me considering I hadnt even installed the turbo memory driver.
I went ahead and did a clean wipe + reinstall once again while not installing the Lenovo provided chipset software. Stable for about a day straight. This got me wondering if perhaps the driver problem isnt with the Turbo memory but a combination of the chipset software and the turbo memory driver. I went ahead and installed the newest turbo memory driver from intel and have been running rock stable for 5 days now
I havent noticed any speed degradations whatsoever not using this driver and while Lenovo suggests it through the updater, I cant download it from intel for vista. ( http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=816&lang=eng)
Could all our problems have been the chipset software itself?
I think I found a resolution to unstable Turbo Memory
