The 14.1" WXGA+ screen was really bad - I havent seen this much backlight bleeding.
The lid was also creaking when pressed right at the edge (at both sides).
Otherwise it seemed solid, but man the screen sucks

You saw a 14"? I heard the 14" sucks but have you compared it to other 14" on the market? Some people say it's just the nature of all 14" screens currently in production. I know my 15" screen was very nice for matte and had very little bleeding. I'm not sure if my 15" creaked while pressing the right edge but I never encountered any problems with creaking.

I have seen
T61, 14",wxga+ : the worst
T42, 14", sxga+: bad, contrast ratio very low
T30, 14" sxga+: bad, contrast ratio very low
Dell Inspiron 1505, 15.4" WXGA: bad, contrast ratio very low, some light bleeding
Sony Vaio (6 years old), 14" XGA: Fantastic lcd
Dell Inspiron 5 years old 15" UXGA: Good, contrast ratio can be improved.
Dell Precision M90 17" WUXGA : STUNNING, high contrast ratio, minimal bleeding, very good viewing angles. -
It also depends on the manufacturer of the screen.
I love my T61's 15.4" LG WSXGA+ screen, however I've heard the Samsung screen used on the same model isn't as good as the LG.
Same goes for my two HP's. AUO on my dv2000 and SEC (Samsung) on my dv1000.
Worlds different side-by-side. -
What's with the weird capitalization (not to mention horrible spelling) of "DissApointed?"
-
I'm going to get an x61s even though the screen is not great.
Anyone have any luck putting aftermarket screens on these laptops? -
-
From personal experience, I can attest that at least the HP nc6400 1440x900 WXGA+ display is no better or worse than that of the T61! Quick compare:
- Both are plenty bright when setting on max brightness, but the T61 (LG) seems to be somewhat brighter
- Both have poor viewing angles. Good enough to watch a DVD across the room, but not good enough to impress your friends. To me this is not a problem in a business laptop anyway, since many people install privacy screens anyway to bring the viewing angle close to zero! Again, the angles are good enough for me since I always look right at the screen when working with the machine.
Stroll over the Dell forum and read about all the gripes people have with the WXGA+ screen on the 1420. Everyone was excited about that machine until they actually received it, and now it's "just another Dell."
I think the T61 WXGA+ screen is actually very good. -
My WXGA+ screen is very, very bright. Enough that I turn it down quite a bit. But I guess I'm just light sensitive.
I think it's an LG, but it doesn't say in Windows, just manufactured by Lenovo. How can I tell? The parts lookup site didn't have it listed -

42T0427 is the number

To all others, don't fret too much about the WXGA+. If 1440x900 in a 14" notebook is important to you, it's worth the wait and it looks just fine. I even had a Mac user ( gasp!) say "That looks so lifelike!" when he saw my Vista setup. -
Yeah, I'm glad too. Just need to rework the partitions and such, but other than that I"m pretty happy with it.
I think I even have a chicony keyboard that people were complaining about, but it has decent feedback and I'm happy with it so far. All I know is that after using a thinkpad at work for 3 years, then having an HP without a friggin trackpoint, I HATE touchpads... I think if I work from home I'll use my machine more than my work one. That and my work one is a 15" 1680x resolution machine and my 1440x 14" will be a bit more comfy. -
-
I like my T61 14.1" screen. It is not the brightest, but that is actually good IMO. I like that at night I can turn it way down so it does not hurt my eyes in the dark...other laptops when turned down are still really bright at night.
-
it shipped on the 9th and I got it on the 15th. That was with expedited.

Might wanna change the title to " I saw a T61 14.1" and I'm highly Disappointed". The 15.4" screen should be much brighter.
-
14.1" have been known not to be very good, Anandtech has even said it about a wxga+ Asus A8.
But I think people take it to seriously when they see some light bleed in the start up screen or screen saver, as long as you don't notice it when doing regular work it shouldn't matter much. I've played games like Fear, Stalker on my desktop monitor (yes I know you guys are talking about notebooks but my monitor has a lot of lightbleed on the edges) and I haven't noticed any of it.
As for my 15" WSXGA+ screen, it's "OK" inside the viewing angles but I do get a bit annoyed about some graininess on the edges of the screen. The "bright" angle is also weird and might be contributing to some of the graininess. Some lighting conditions also seem to matter also, darker rooms make the grainy screen a bit more apparent but bright rooms seem to make it harder to notice. I also have a LG screen.
I haven't seen the 14.1" T61 in person but this is just my experiences. -

Use the parts lookup:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/s...2Fpartslookup/partsLookup.vm&sitestyle=lenovo
Then match the FRU next to the LCD to one here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67914
I have an LG and love it so far. -
Ah OK I dont have my notebook yet, I just ordered it on 15th so I guess I cant get the FRU until much later.
But thanks for the info. Appreciate it
Cheers,

But what you say is true.
Unfortunately, I wrok on dark colored backgrounds, typing etc on a black background.
Hence, it makes a big difference to me. -

Hey my parts number for the LCD is 42V8286 but I cant find that on the parts website... neither can I find the keyboard with the number 42V8195.
Can someone help me out?
