What is the difference between "Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN" and "Thinkpad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Expresser Adapter"?

What is the difference between the 3 options and which has a SD reader?

    1. PC Card Slot and Express Card Slot
    2. PC Card Slot and Media Card Slot
    3. PC Card Slot and Smart Card Slot

    Thank you for your help.
    :)

I believe the Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN is the wireless card that intel provides for Centrino branded notebooks. The Thinkpad 11a/b/g/n wireless card is a card produced by Atheros. In general most people think the Atheros cards are better at getting a signal and keeping a stable connection than their Intel counterparts.

I believe the PC Card Slot with the Media Card Slot should be able to read SD cards. The Express Card Slot is the next generation for PCMCIA. You can read about it here: http://www.expresscard.org/web/site/about.jsp The media card slot is the 4-in-1 media card reader and the smart card reader reads smart chips that are embedded on some ID cards and credit cards. You probably only care about the Smart Card slot if you are a business though.

Which of these options do you recommend for a new laptop?

either option 1 or 2. Smart card is just used for security id for your computer where you insert a card shape like a credit card for identification. There may be other purposes for the card but not very much useful.

option 2 would be most useful IMO, especially you have or ever will have a digital camera. It is still useful if you have a pda or use a cell phone if you want to transfer files using sd or microsd memory. But then you can also buy a multi card reader connect from usb or pc slot, or prefer it to be built in.

express card is a bit into next generation so there aren't much useful for now but more in the future, since it is a faster type pc slot.

I'd go with the Express Card slot if I were you, but that's just because I wouldn't use the Media card slot...

I would also go for the ExpressCard since you can get media card readers for either the PC Card slot or ExpressCard slot. The ExpressCard slot is rarely used now, but it could become useful in the future such as for those 16 GB flash cards coming out now.

I fully agree with Matt and FRiC; you can get a cardreader in a PC-card of Expresscard. And you could get a new notebook X-Fi for Expresscard.

Or whatever. Expresscard has the future!

(I assume it's the 54 mm slot and not only the 34?)

I'd go with the Atheros card for wireless as most people agree it gets much better signal than the intel cards.

Regarding the card slots I would go with the media slot personally as I don't even use the PCMCIA card slot I'm not likely to use the express card slot and the media card slot will probably come in some use with digital cameras.
