What thinkpad models should I look for.

I need it for school use mainly. It needs to have some power since it will be running some math applications that sometimes require a lot, but at the same time it needs to be quiet, so I can use it in class and at exams. so a good battery time close to 4 hours or more would be good too.

sounds good. Can it handle some load too? Not 3D gaming but just some some 3d graphics and some math calculations?

My T42 is also very quiet, especially after undervolting it. Also, my 6 cell battery can last about 4 hours 30 minutes, if I'm doing only the most basic of things, like web surfing and typing a document. I wouldn't recommend getting the Mobility Radeon 7500 though; I doubt it will handle 3D engineering applications well. From my experience, it is no better than Intel's GMA 900.
