I'm running XP. I need bios 1.23 because I have a Seagate drive that only works on bios 1.23

Lenovo has approved my drive Seagate ST980825A drive. I downloaded the latest firmware and the drive still gets the 2040 error message. According to Wikipedia, bios 1.23 is the only confirmed bios that works with my Seagate drive. If this doesn't work, I will have to order directly from lenovo.

My T43 will be my first and last Thinkpad. Durable they are not as my drive died after 15 months.

The link I gave you was to BIOS Update 1.28, not 1.23. You didn't specify you were looking for that version. Anyway, I could not find version 1.23 on their website. Sorry.

    Matt

Modification: Nevermind, you did mention the version in the title. My bad.

Links to older BIOS versions can be found near the bottom of the page that Mturco11x linked to. 1.23 is there.

I have to say, I'm awfully perplexed as to why Lenovo would break support for certain hard drives in later BIOS updates. That can't have been necessary.

Drive failure has almost nothing to do with the design of a laptop. Blame the hard drive manufacturer for that, not Lenovo.

I wasn't blaming Lenovo for the hard drive failure. I was upset because hard drives have a 3 year warranty. IBM makes it difficult to upgrade my hard drive. They also charge 50-75% more for hard drives bought through them. I bought a supported drive, downloaded the correct firmware and still get the 2010 error message. Then I try to download an older bios and have trouble finding it.

I already tried to download that firmware, but I couldn't load it to disk. My floppy drive hung at 40% completion. Yet another stupid IBM trick.

Did you download the firmware from that page specifically? Because that firmware is meant to be run off the hard drive - I'm so used to doing it that way that I didn't even think about the obvious problem of your hard drive being dead.

You'll want the diskette-based firmware updaters, which can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-59380

    TrippyTiger,
Thank you. I found the same link before I started this post. However, I must of had a bad download because the application stopped copying at 40%. Most people would quit. I blamed Lenovo. Then, I erased the old copy and downloaded a fresh copy. Success, the download works.
    Thanks for your help!

PS, If bios 1.23 doesn't work I am going to be terribly upset.
