I just realized now after seeing Windows 7 and it's taskbar of how big of a mistake I made back when I bought my T61. I opted for the WXGA screen because it said it was Lenovo Recommended not realizing that the WXGA+ screen was a lot better.
I am so mad that I made this decision and this is the only problem I have. Is there any way to go to the WXGA+ or is it impossible?

Call your sales rep the first thing in the morning.

I ordered the laptop 1 year ago..
-
Sell it.
-
Not worth selling it lol. I love the laptop.. Just a little mistake.. Is WXGA+ that much better?
-
You could theoretically find a WXGA+ display for the T61 and replace it, but it would take a lot of handiwork, and will likely not be worth it. ZaZ probably has the best solution - sell your laptop and get a new one with a higher-resolution screen.
-
Not selling it, not worth it. I love my laptop. Just one little small bad decision.
-
Then don't dwell on it. Why it is suddenly a bad decision...a year after your purchase. Did you care for that whole year you've owned it prior to this point?
-
No, but after seeing Windows 7 and how big the taskbar looks compared to Vista, I am not sure whether or not it will be to big on WXGA compared to WXGA+.
-
Go to taskbar properties and check the 'Use small icons' button.
-
With Windows 7 on my desktop and on a widescreen display, I prefer my task bar on the left. When the taskbar is on the left, it is very usable and frees up a ton of vertical space. Even though my display is a 1680x1050 native resolution, I dipped the resolution to 1280x800 so you can get a feel for the layout of 7 at your resolution.
If your happy with the laptop, keep it, I'm sure it is a great machine. 1280x800 doesn't effect you in Vista and I don't think it will harm you in 7.
Hope this helps.Attached Files:

I had a 1280x768 WXGA screen in my last notebook and that definitely was a bad choice. That's why I don't follow the LED hype and go for a T500 with a WSXGA+ screen (if I can find more info about the quality).
You have to decide if it's really worth spending money for a display for a one year old notebook. For me it wouldn't have been an option. -
So so simple.
An LCD swap is a laughably easy job.
Buy this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-IBM-Lenovo-T61-14-1-WXGA-LCD-Screen-42T0427_W0QQitemZ270331231473QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item270331231473&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A15|39%3A1|240%3A1318
Sell your current screen on ebay, it will fetch you about 60 bucks.
Now you just got the upgrade for ~15 bucks, which is certainly much less than it was originally from Lenovo.
Here's the service manual, it outlines how to remove the LCD panel.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67760 -
A viable option for sure but it is not "laughably" easy to most. Some users are unsure of installing ram.
-
True, but the Lenovo service manuals are freely available and spell out the exact steps you need to take.
As long as you are careful and make sure you keep all the bits in some semblance of order it shouldn't be beyond most people. -
This. People who are unsure about installing RAM fail because they give themselves too little credit. The physical work on computers is the easy part - diagnosing the problem is what takes skill.

Is it possible to bring this to a Lenovo Technician (I have a warranty) and tell then to replace the screen with WXGA+?
Can you also find me a seller on eBay that ships to Canada? -
I currently have a 3 year warranty with accidental damage and I am not happy with the WXGA screen I have (the resolution is to big). Is it possible to call up Lenovo and get them to send a box so I can ship my laptop to the repair center so they can replace my WXGA screen with a WXGA+ screen?
-
No, the warranty is not designed to protect you from your own mistaken choices.
-
I could tell them that my eyes are getting strained because the resolution is too high. I am sure they would do this. After all, I have a warranty.
-
Although that may be an argument that might make sense, it would set a very dangerous precedent for them. If they allowed this, people with all sorts of other problems will be swapping their laptops as well...
Have you tried changing the resolution btw? -
Yes, 1280x800 is the max. If only I had a friend who was a Lenovo Technician so I could buy an LCD and he would replace it!
-
lol, then it would work the other way, my eyes strain from TOO HIGH res like 1920x1200, so i want a lower one like 1280x800.
how would ur eyes strain from low res.??? -
They don't.. Just an excuse to say..
-
Why not set it to a lower display res and call it a day?
-
He wants a higher resolution, not lower, I think, he said he has WXGA (1280x800) and wants WXGA+ (1440x900). There's not even a snowballs chance on the equator of you getting a new screen because your eyes are sore, its too big, too small, or anything else. This is what the return period is for, and I presume yours is up. It'd be like me telling gateway I need a faster laptop because this one gives me a headache trying to play GTA IV or Crysis maxed out and only getting 10 FPS.
-
Sell it on ebay and buy a new one..
-
Once again, it's not worth it to sell it. It is a very good laptop. I can live with it, I am just wondering if I can go to WXGA+
Wait if I upgrade my screen to WXGA+ will I still have my camera that I have? -
mullenbooger Former New York Giant
You can, you just need to buy one and replace it yourself, or pay a computer store to do it for you. Some things in life cost money. Its up to you if you deem it to be worth it. Same goes with all laptop components, hard drives etc. Things won't just be given to you if you whine.
-
Will it take away my camera?
-
They will not replace a non-faulty part under warranty. The best you will be able to do is find a professional to do the work for you, but you will have to pay them.
As for a canadian seller, I just went to ebay.ca and searched "T61 14.1" WXGA+"
Here's what I found...
http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-LENOVO-THINKPAD-T61-14-1-WXGA-LAPTOP-LCD-SCREEN_W0QQitemZ120359380980QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item120359380980&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A15|39%3A1|240%3A1318 -
That's WXGA not WXGA+. Any luck finding good priced WXGA+ that ship to Canada?
-
Is the camera on the T61 apart of the LCD screen? I am going to change my screen to WXGA+ and just want to make sure that the camera is not apart of the LCD screen which I don't think it is.
-
I am ordering the LCD screen from Lenovo and I do not know which screen I should get or which one is compatible with my T61. Here are the options I can choose from. Which one do I order?:
220nit, LG-Display
42T0406
200nit LG-Display
42T0427
200nit LG-Display
42T0579
200nit, CMO
42T0453
200nit, Samsung
13N7108
200nit, Samsung
42T0412
200nit, Samsung
42T0583
Also, I have a camera and will I need to order any other part a long with this to use this screen, or I can use the camera I already have and attach it to the screen? -
Throw out all Samsungs.. Using nits as resolution they have only 200 & a 220 left. You will probably take yhe remaining 220.
Renee -
So I should order LG 220 NITS? I also don't need to order the Camera Bezel because I already have it right?
-
I don't believe so, it's in the bezel. Have a look at the service manuals for a definitive answer though.

News:
I need to find a WXGA+ screen for my T61. I want it to be at a decent price and it to be decent quality. However finds me one first will make my day! I need it to be able to ship to Canada!
Will changing my LCD screen void my warranty? -
Absolutely.
-
Even if Lenovo ships it to me?
-
Sure. They don't know or care what you're going to do with it. You could be buying it to replace a broken screen on an out-of-warranty notebook.
But for an in-warranty system, the screen is not a CRU. -
What do you think. If my screen ever broke (WXGA) and I have an accidental warranty, would I be able to convince Lenovo to replace the screen with a WXGA+ at there repair center or the will ONLY replace it with WXGA?
-
They won't do an upgrade for sure - if they did, people would be breaking their stuff to get cheap/free upgrades.
-
Stupid me. I had the option of getting WXGA+ at the time and didn't realize that it was better! Such a dumb mistake, especially with the new Windows 7 taskbar! Anyways, mistakes happen to everybody. Did you make any mistakes on your laptop?
-
Yeah I made a mistake, I bought an XPS M1330!
No, but really - I buy all of my laptops in non working condition for 1/4th their value in working condition. Then I spent another 1/4th (or less) the value of the whole laptop to fix it.
Then I come out with a working laptop that I paid half price for, and sell it 6 months later for a bit less than I invested. -
Hmmmm. I am wondering if I call up Lenovo and ask them truthfully if there is anyway or a fee I can pay for them to uprade my LCD will they do it. I have a warranty but I am sure it's not covered by that. I wonder if I could pay like $80 for an upgrade to WXGA+. Do you think they will do it?
-
It will cost more than $80 since you're not paying for the upgrade to the next display, you're paying for a whole new display. It will likely be $150-200 for the panel. I have no idea what labor will cost. Just wait until your warranty runs out. When it does, switch to Windows 7 and replace the screen yourself. No problems.
-
My warranty ends in 3 years
And I don't really like the idea of getting a non-OEM screen.
Will Lenovo offer to do it for me if I pay at full price? Will this void my warranty even though their technicians are doing it? -
I don't believe they offer that kind of service.
I made a horrible decision..
