Best laptop I have ever owned. Got a new one from a guy on e-bay.
2.0Ghz Dual Core
2 Gigs Ram
x1400
DVD Burner
9 cell battery and side bay battery
Windows XP Pro
I will never buy another brand again. I now understand what people mean by the keyboard. I thought my macbook pro keyboard was good. There is no comparison. This truly is like the BMW's of laptops.
Things I love
Battery life for starters. Blows every laptop I owned out of the water
Security Need I say more
Performance.... Does everything I need and more (Office, Cad tools, etc)
Keyboard.... I cannot get over how great the keyboard is.
Noise... What noise
Temperatures...... Compared to my macbook pro this thing barely gives off any heat.
I could keep going on but I should probably stop.
My list of Best laptops owned
1. T60 x1400 Dual core etc... (issues........ NONE)
2. Macbook Pro 8600 GT dual core etc... (issues heat, too flashy, app compatibility... aka need boot camp)
3. Sony 13.3 inch (issues heat, solid but not to my new Thinkpad standards)
4. Asus G1S Had for a couple months until I got the Dell and then the macbook pro (Issues heat, size, noise, Vista)
5. Dell 8600 Gave away earlier this year to my brother going to school. Has a very special place in my heart. (issues warm, size, weight... However, for what I got it lasted a long time)
6. Dell 1520 Owned sold and now done with Dell ran cool though (issues DELL COSTUMER SERVICE, size, build quality)
7. HP dv something Took back to Costco after a week. (issues Very Loud fan, cheap, performance)
Well that sums up most of the laptops I have owned. Thinkpad is now in my #1 spot.

Just out of curiosity, what is your screen size and resolution?
-
1400x1050 and its a 14.1 inch
-
To be fair to Dell, a Latitude is probably a fairer comparison to a ThinkPad.

Thats amazing that there is such a huge heat/noise difference between the T60p's and T60's. On the T60p the fan won't stop and makes horrible whining noise. Its good to know on the T60's that there is very little noise from the fan and that it runs much cooler.
-
I agree with snowbob230. My T60 is the best laptop I've ever owned or used. Through work I have a T41 and a Dell Latitude D620. I can't stand using the dell. I absolutely hate it. Especially the touchpad and nubbie.

how much did you pay for it?
-
I recently started purchasing Lenovo laptops for clients and so far they love it. -
I got it for 980 on e-bay. I would have paid more for it but that the price he wanted when I asked about a buy it now.
14.1 inch T60 model
Specs
2.0Ghz Intel Dual Core
x1400
2 Gig Ram
100 gig 7200rpm HD
DVD Burner
1400x1050 screen
9 cell battery and extra modular battery
Windows XP
3 year warranty with the extra protection service
I registered everything and so far this thing has been running without any issue. I am debating doing a clean install, however, everything seems fast enough. Norton had to go, but that was about it. The security chip feature seems nice. Although most of the apps on there seem useless to me, however, I really like the defragmenting software that was included. I saw a review on it a while ago but never thought much about it until now.
All in all I still cant get over how great the laptop is as a whole.
Also I have only seen a friends latitude so it would not be fair to judge Dell's Business laptops. Also I loved my dell 8600, and have seen older models that are more than 6 years old and still running. I think it is all the new Dell stuff I do not like. The 1520 just seemed cheap.
Oh I did forget one laptop and that was a Dell 6000. Nothing special, but I got it off there refurbished site for $489 shipped a year and a half ago. Sold it to a friend who still uses it. -

thanks for the info. Is he a powerseller selling more than one? Can I pick one off of him? Thanks
-
I think it was a one time thing. Great deal though. Especially considering the 3 year warranty with the extra protection.
When I talked to the tech guy he said I could drop it break the screen and they would replace it. Is it really that good or do you have to go through loops to get it fixed and wait a couple weeks in the process? -

I bought my t60p for $1000 it was made in January and I bought it in February
it retailed for $3500. And for your info there probably is someting wrong with your T60p mine doesn't whine you need a new fan or it needs lubrication. -

Well the specs on my T60p are:
T7200
2GB Ram
100gb 7200RPM
15.4 WSXGA+
V5250
ABGN
DVDRW
Bluetooth
I have a slight whining noise when the fan spools up its quite noisy actually, a lot of people on thinkpads.com have the same whining noise coming from the fan. I am skeptical to send it into easyserv, the last computer I sent into easyserv they were not able to fix and I got a refund (this was after they replaced the system board 3 times). -
anyone got a T60 or T60p to sell me let me know
-
I really wish Lenovo would change the fan/temp thresholds in the current BIOS versions; part of the reason your T60 is so quiet is it's probably running an older BIOS version with the accompanying older version of the SM Controller section which has a much smarter fan threshold range (about 1500-2000 RPM most of the time which is almost silent vs the current 3000 RPM that runs most of the time which is a lot more noticeable).
Unfortunately, those of us with WS T60's can't use the versions for the 4:3 aspect T60's (atleast I think this is the case).
Either way, I'm still pretty happy with my T60 and I'm glad you are too! -
the specs should be in my signature. But I don't think I will sell it for less than 900.
my signature says 1gb ram, but it's actually 2gb, since I added one stick.
Have both vista business and xp professional.
it has 3 year warranty. -

Yea when I first got my computer the fan barely turned on, after doing these bios updates it totally screwed with the settings and the fan is always on now, I wonder if we could roll back the bios
-
Good to know. I wont be updating my bios anytime soon.
If anybody is interested that guy is selling another one on e-bay.
His e-bay screen name is catharsisone
If you look under his feedback you will see mine as the latest. -
-
just curious. How come he claims that these are brand new laptops yet the power cord has been unraveled and there is water marks on the screen? it's clearly not brand new.
was that how it was with you? -
-
-
I think he has a whole bunch of them. One just ended yesterday.
I truly had my doubts, but when I received it the computer was in a bag with a seal that had not been broken, and the battery ac adapter etc are all in new boxes.
I also registered my computer and call the Thinkpad guys to make sure the warranty is what he said it was.
The only thing I had to do was install the extra 1GB memory chip. It cam in a sealed Lenovo box with instructions on how to do it. Really easy to add I might note. -
-
I have a T60 with major heat issues. It has the whining noise as well when I am doing nothing intensive at all as well... It is only one year old, and I take very good care of it... Seems like IBM ain't all its being played up to be...

Before the update, I thought this machine was running pretty cool to the touch on top and bottom side, just got warm once in a while. Now with the fan running, maybe it seems a little cooler still, not sure. The air coming out of the back is pretty darn warm sometimes, so I'm fine with the fan running then. But sometimes the air coming out isn't that warm at all, but the fan still runs. hmmmm. Maybe this update will make the CPU last longer, but I kind of regret doing it.
The other thing is that I don't remember the Fan or Cooling as one of the reasons it listed for the bios update. So was this a screw-up, or was the fan update intentional?
If you find a way to roll back the bios, please let me know.
Do these fans last long? Do they use up much battery life? If they last long, and don't use too much battery, I'm not sure how much this really bothers me. More air also means more dust inside too unfortunately. -
Yea I just tested out a game (Age of Empires 3) and I put my hand next to the vent and felt alot of air coming out, but other than that there was almost zero noise. Not sure which bios I have but the manufacture date is July 2007. However, maybe it is a time thing and my fan will start making a noise one of these days, but as of today I have not even noticed it.
I will say though the loudest computers I have owned where,
Asus G1s-A1 Loudest laptop I have ever owned
HP DV6000 Also loud (Someone told me that was because I had Vista on it)
Other than that
The 13.3 inch sony I had was in the middle, but it was pretty damn hot. It would stay quite when idle but kick up during load.
Surprisingly the Dell 1520 was pretty cool and not that loud. It would kick up a bit during benchmarks but all in all was pretty good.
Macbook is also makes very little audible noise, but it seems to get rather warm when doing alot of tasks.
The thinkpad makes almost zero sound and I have yet to notice if and when it kicks up. I have run all sorts of benchmarks and all the while this thing stays cool and silent.
What bios do you guys have? -
Can't wait until it arrives. This forum has been a great source of info for the T series (T60/T61)
At work, I have use Corporate IBM ThinkPads/Dell/Toshiba Tecra M3 for several years now (corp owned). I currently own (personal/home) a Dell Latitude (screen died several months ago) & Compaq Presario 2100, wife.
This machine will be used for Personal & Business (mostly business).
I really need the mobility (EV-DO, Wi-fi, & Processing Speed)!

I love the T60
