I have some very NEW and very BEAUTIFUL news that just came from Lenovo!
I have been bringing up this topic for three days now on multiple forums and have gotten many responses, almost all the same. I understand that many have researched this and gone to the tabook and informed me that this is a mistake. It is not a mistake.
This SPECIFIC MODELT60 14.1" ($2,949.00 web price, now on sale for $2,099.00) model IS IN FACT AN IPS SCREEN.
Please click on the link, go to "Continue" as if you were going to buy it, then look the the left side of the screen where it shows the specifications. Look where it shows display:
Display type: 14.1 inch SXGA+ IPS (1400x1050) TFT Display with wide viewing angle and high density display (Standard)
I saw this a few days ago and this is why I have been bringing up these discussions. I found out it is true and not a mistake.
It is NOT MENTIONED IN THE TABOOK, however, on the technical specs that the sales use, which is correct, IT IS IPS and they have in fact confirmed it. I made them confirm it multiple times because I was almost convinced by the people on this forum that it was a mistake.
IT IS IPS so TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS!!!
IT IS A SWEET SALE AND THE ONLY 14.1" IPS SCREEN THEY CURRENTLY OFFER!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Though there is one problem that I am worried about.
I know IPS technology improves viewing angel significantly, though i have heard that it decreases response time, as well as contrast ratio. I do not know how much it decreases it but that information would be very very helpful in my decision for a 14/15" T60 model.
I also know the flewview screen is IPS, though i do not know if IPS is the only reason they call it flexview. If so, then the 14.1" IPS i described above is also a flexview.
I also need to know if the flexview screens also lose response time and contrast ratio becuase if it reduces them enough, I will not be getting an IPS screen.
Any correct information about these screens response time/contrast ratio would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Two things, can you elaborate a little more on this? Who did you talk to?
-
I first contacted the sales department yesterday and spoke with a representative. I had many questions already laid out in advance and he could not answer them all so he sent me to technical support. This took awhile because they first transferred me to the canada department after I had waited 20 minutes to talk to tech support =( . So they then gave me the US tech support number for the Atlanta department. I talked to them there and they told me they could not help me and that they would have to hang up because there were other customers waiting, which by the way did not show the great customer service I expected (I had only been talking for 3-5 minutes).
I spoke to a sales rep today named Nick. I asked him about that specific model because I had been discussing this topic yesterday quite a bit and I wanted to know the truth. He confirmed that it is in fact an IPS screen. I asked him to check the tabook because I had been told it was a mistake by multiple people. He told me that they do not use the tabook and instead use the actual technical specs using a different method, I am not sure how. I again asked him if he was sure because I was sceptical. He again confirmed it.
There you go, I hope that is elaborated enough
Besides, I do not think 512 mb RAM would make a difference of $650 between the two models T60-2623D7U and T60-200764U
There must have been another reason and I think this explains it -
I am not saying you are wrong, but I find it odd that the first rep didn't know anything and the second rep knows all. Reps are not the most informed people in the company. I have never known any 14" notebook with a IPS screen, but I have been wrong before. I guess I'll believe it when I see it.
As for the pricing difference, it happens all the time. It is not a locked in stone system whereby machines are priced according to the parts. Different notebooks for whatever reason are discounted to where their price is similar to another notebook with lesser parts. -
Like I posted in your other thread, I hope your notebook indeed comes with an IPS screen. But then again, the sales guy you talked to is just that, sales. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I think he just told you a line to make the sale.

hopefully it will work out

Straight from their site:
"Display type
14.1 inch SXGA+ IPS (1400x1050) TFT Display with wide viewing angle and high density display (Standard) "
Can't get much less complicated than that. -
that is what i thought until approx. 25+ people denied it and said it was simply a mistake but who knows
-
you'd think with all the people buying expensive laptops at this site that someone would simply buy it and find out. If it is in deed a mistake, just send it back and get your money.
Simple as that. -
Nothing you said here convinces me. Tech representatives don't know the half of it sometimes, Lenovo's site is and always has been prone to errors. Furthermore, the base model, 2007-64U does appear in the Tabook, and nowhere it says that it's an IPS screen.
If it really was IPS, then either they would have more models with 14.1" IPS and it would be mentioned in the Tabook, or it would be a unique model, and then they'd go out of their skin to advertise it (like the MaxBright on Z60m). The Service Part Manual also doesn't mention any IPS panels on 14.1" T60 screens.
So unless someone actually gets such a model and checks it, I don't believe it's an IPS screen. It's not the first time something like this surfaced. There have been rumours with the T43s as well, due to the same errors on Lenovo's site. -
well, i am not saying it is a fact i am just telling you all the it was confirmed multiple times to me by two sales reps from the department, that is all

new member, just joined today. After doing all my research I pulled the trigger on the 200764U on Wednesday. I wanted to wait until I the new Dell's were released, but I have always like Thinkpad more than Dell, I have had both. Also, the sale on the thinkpad really made it an easier decision for me. I ended up buying this one because I wanted the smaller screen and 6 cell battery, so even though the other model with the 15 inch and 9 cell battery was essentially the same price, I went with the 14.1. I did not even know about the whole ips debate. The order confirmation email I got lists it as a 14.1" TFT active matrix SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) - 24-bit (16.7 million colors), no mention of ips, though the website does list it.
My current ship date is 4/20 , I will let everyone know when I get it. -
Please do so we can end this debate.

Does anybody know how could T60P be ordered from Canada? Any online merchant willing to configure/ship to Canada?
Lenovo Canada is a ridiculous web site (worst I have ever experienced) with ridiculous product offering -
200% agree. The website is the worst... -
Have you tried CDW.com?
-
Just got my T60, Model 200764U. This one got an IPS screen.
-
I wonder what kind of screen does 2007c4u has. And what is the difference between series that start with 26XX and 2007XX? Does anyone know
-
This is very confusing.
-
-
The two sale rep I talked with said there was no difference bettween the 2007 screen and the 2623 screens. Just considering that there are no manufactures for a 14.1" ips right now has to be evidence to a mistake. Much of the site has not been updated perfectly since lenovo took over.
-
also, how do you know that you have an IPS display?
I have some FANTASTIC NEWS for all you Thinkpad Lovers ~!
