I received my T61 15.4 WSXGA+ today.
No major complaints. A somewhat grainy Samsung screen, but it doesn't bother me anymore, and a somewhat noisy Chicony keyboards that feels great. Not annoying.
Brightness is great. Color is what you'd expect. Not amazing, but not terrible at all.
The rest of the computer is amazing. It is my first Thinkpad. I opened up the box, and it was gorgeous. Way better than the pictures. I don't see why people think these computers are ugly. Looks better than the three Macbook Pros I had. (And feels better)
I do not notice the offcenter screen at all when I'm using it. Should not be a deal breaker for people who are worried about it.
If it does creak, I don't notice it. The flex is minimal, or negligible. It's there, but it doesn't take away from the build quality a bit. I think people make a big deal out of small things.
Vista, well that's another story.
My only complaint is that the computer didn't come with a Vista Upgrade Anytime disc that they used to come with. I had to bust out 5 dollars and buy one from CompUSA to do a fresh install.
I'm happy.

I'm hoping to be joining you buddy Just waiting for a few factors to subside.

Congrats... I just hope mine will be LG... (crosses fingers)

GOOD purchase.
I wish I didnt buy my T60, so I could get a T61.
hahaha -
I have a Samsung screen on my T61 received yesterday and I'm getting ready to open the window and trow it out in the street (literally).
I just can't get any decent viewing angles. If the top half of the screen has decent whites, the lower half looks like grays and the other way around.
Unfortunately I imported it from Euclid computers to Portugal and already paid customs fees so returning it is not an option.
Comparing it with the screen of my Asus M6N (almost 3 years old) the difference is really night and day.
Why on earth has Lenovo decided to offer such a bad screen on their top-of-the-line product? I heard very good things about ThinkPads and was really looking to replace my aging Asus with another laptop what would last me 2+ years but unfortunately this one isn't it :/ -
agreed smartins, I sold my last t60 for the very reason you dislike yours!
Probably a supply issue... they have a hard enough time shipping laptops the way it is, so they probably need the stock even though it's a crappy LCD. -

As the original poster, I should probably mention that I ended up not being so happy with my Samsung. The screen was exceptionally grainy/sparkly, from the antiglare coating it seemed. I had to return it. This does not mean all of them are like this. I have not heard many complaints regarding grain/sparkle issues.
I don't know how much of a difference there is between the LG and Samsung, but it is generally thought that the LG is better. Brighter, better colors.
As for Chicony, mine was great. -
Ya I noticed you posted this then said later you had taken one back that had bad sparkle. Sparkle sucks ass. I know. I've b1tched about it more times on here than I can count. Not the sparkle on the thinkpad but the sparkle on my ASUS monitor. If I get sparkle on my T61, it will go back IMMEDIATELY. I'm done with putting up with screen sparkle. Although the screen that has the sparkle on my ASUS laptop is actually made by LG but the LG screen on my first T61 was nice. Very vibrant, good colors, and great brightness. Side by side it really put my 180 nits ASUS to shame. The viewing angles were about the same too which was acceptable (I'm not really picky about viewing angles).

What was the part number for your Samsung screen?
-
Can you guys please describe this sparkle? what is it exactly and how do you notice it?
-
How come i never heard anything about screen quality until after i bought my t61...
Is the wxga regular any better than the plus with these problems? -
If you do a search there are some very good descriptions of screen sparkle floating around. I wrote a very long and detailed one myself as a response in a thread.

I tried doing a search for your explanation of the sparkle..however, I could not find it..can you please post a link? Thanks
Nevermind...found it http://forums.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=127599&page=2&highlight=sparkle
