Still in warranty?

I'd call it a fair-to-better-than price. I doubt you'd get a whole lot lower without getting lucky. My best recent deal like that was a 14" Core Duo T60 with most of the toys, ATI graphics and a 1400x1050 panel for $140, purchased last year, and that was a score.
65w adapter included, or did you score a 90? -
I almost bought a 15" 4:3 T60 with a cracked LCD (no battery, no AC Adapter) for $100 off of craigslist not too long ago.
I was going to either install one of my spare UXGA LCDs into it or find another cheap QXGA screen to put into it. But the fact that it didn't come with a battery deterred me from buying it. -
$100 is high for broken and lacking both parts. Add $80-100 for a screen, another $20-30 for an AC adapter, and then the battery, and you've no longer got a good deal.
-
Considering the number of used T60's available you can afford to be choosy, as LoneWolf15 mentioned the costs of getting the broken system up and running again would probably end up costing you more than getting a perfectly fine working system in the first place.

65W adapter included. That's what it comes with when Intel graphics are used. No warranty. I just hope the screen will be in decent shape.
this is very basic model though, the use will be internet, skype, and looking at pictures. I bought it for my mother, as I would not like her taking my current T61 (or then I'll have to buy me new laptop while I'm still loving this one, LOL.)
I'll upgrade the RAM to 2GB, and the HDD to 500GB, both for free as I have them here. That will boost the performance significantly. I also wanted XP, as teaching her Win 7 will be a pain ...
Still not sure if I should look for new battery. Knowing that she'll have it plugged in most of the time, I might pass on this for now. Unless I score cheap battery on ebay.
this laptop will be huge upgrade for her as she's using my old HP Pavilion laptop, 7+ years old so far Still usable though, mainly because I decided to add that new at the time option of having wireless B WiFi card in it ... LOL. All for the cost of some 2,300 USD. Dang. -
Yeah, I did up an Inspiron 1520 for my mother last year. She bought the laptop (I bought it for her from a friend who had a client shaft him and not pay, leaving him with the pink-lidded laptop and out money + depreciation for it).
I paid for the fun stuff myself. RAM upgrade, webcam and bezel (plus new rubber bumpers), new T8100 processor to replace the anemic Pentium dual-core, DVD writer, new palmrest (client broke the touchpad buttons), new, much stronger hinges, and an Intel 4965AGN wireless card. It's like new now and she loves it.
-
how much did you pay for the 4965 card ? I'm not sure what WiFi this one has, but I dont think it's N.
-
A Lenovo-branded 4965 is around $15-25 last I checked on Ebay.
The key is, get a 4965AGN. There are also cards listed as 4965AG. For some reason, Intel made a variant of the 4965 card, and stripped the wireless-N. Same 3x3 antennas and MIMO, though.
I happen to have one of the Lenovo-branded AG cards here in fact; I was buying a card for the SO's T61, it was late at night and I wasn't thinking clearly, and bought the wrong one first. If you were interested in it, I'd send it to you for price of shipping, as I have no use for it. -
---ewwwwww, how bad of me ---
I just bought another T61, almost same as this one, but with 60GB HDD and crappy Sanio 6-cell battery.
For 2 dollars more
-> so to sum it up, this is my third T61 I might as well start a network, lol.
turns out 14" wide screen is not as bad as I though (at 1280x800). Cant compare to my beloved one in the sig of course, but still acceptable for web browsing.
I put my 1 GB stick in the first one, now gotta find me another 1GB stick to make both have 2GB RAM. That's all they need for XP Pro 32bit After reset of the battery of the first one (Panasonic 4 cell) it went to full capacity again. Looks like this one may have never been reset before as well, so will see.
overall - long live T61 I may post some pictures too
EDIT: both have 3945ABG WiFi, works OK. -
-
-
yeah, I mean seriously - you get so much processing power for so cheap, yet in a quality laptop
I checked one T400 as well and it looks just like the T61, but cost more. However, I was also looking for XP and not Vista laptops, so got 3 of those now
there were some X61 and X200 too that were worth checking out, tablets as well -

Hrmm checking Ebay T61 are like 260~ but for like a fully loaded one you can get a T400 and you'll have Montevina and all chips are Penryn...
I got my 2 Z61t for the price of 1 T61. -

Since my mom bought it, it wasn't that expensive for me to buy the extra upgrades (and some were from my spare parts bin). It also helped out my friend; he bought it for someone, and they stiffed him. When he got it back for repairs (what they were thinking, I don't know) he repossessed it. He took a loss selling it to me due to depreciation.
I hate wasting useful equipment, and projects like that keep my skills sharp. Seeing as it's an i965 system like the T61, at some point I could even put Windows 7 on it for her. I also wanted her to be able to do minor video editing; the system has a mini-firewire port for her camcorder. Adding a T8100 CPU added SSE4 instructions to speed that up, and increased battery life at the same time. Adding the DVD writer gave an outlet for the finished product.
It's in near-mint condition now. I probably wouldn't buy a current Inspiron, but back then, they weren't that far removed from the business lines.Click to expand...
Unfortunately after the 1520, Inspirons went their own way and getting more and more proprietary. The 1525 right after it went with the thinner chassis and the 1545 copied it.Click to expand... -
not a bad buy... it would be better that you got a T61 with a T8xxx or T9xxx CPU, but 230 dollars is not that bad. The average price for the T61 in Australia is about 250 to 350 dollars, so i guess the used equipments in North America depreciate slower (considering the RRP of thinkpads in USA).
I bought me another T61
