They end August 18th and I won't get my check until at least the 20th.

Come and lament with me, all ye who are screwed by father time.

Why wouldn't you just use a credit card to purchase, then you pay 30-days later interest free?

Don't have any credit cards--just the debit card. I may have to give the saved-cart thing a try, though.

well that makes more sense then, not to promote racking up debt and overspending by using a credit card but there are some benefits when buying a laptop or electronics goods, you're more protected when ordering online if someone nabs your CC # and Visa/Amex/Mastercard offer +1 year to whatever warranty you get.

I use to have an American Express card a long time ago, but I closed it when I got paranoid about credit card and identity theft.

I said I'd get one again if I ever started traveling.

The chances of people stealing you id are the same if you have credit card or not. The most important thing is your SS# and birth-date, both of which are not listed in your statement; even if they did steal money from the CC, CC company can usually solve it. Just guard your SS# with care, you will be fine.
