    Hello Everyone,

I got this Laptop: IBM Thinkpad T22 and it is locked and i have no idea how to unlock it, i tried taking out the battery and shorting the battery on the bios, but i still can't manage to unlock it.
When it boots up it displays the IBM screen then after that screen has a lock sign and it asks me for a password.

    Please help

    Thanks

    Hi BRC,
Usually when someone "gets or has got this laptop" and does not have a password to unlock it, it is a stolen unit. Did you get it off of Ebay real cheap?
BRC, you will need to contact the previous owner and get the passwords for the notebook, if they cannot provide them then the notebook is probably stolen. IBM has the best notebook security there is period. Taking out the battery and or taking out the BIOS battery won't fix it. The IBM thinkpads have a security chip on the motherboard that holds and encrypts the passwords. You can't just remove the chip as it will never boot without it. IBM cannot even unlock it. They can however replace the security chip for about $250-$300 if you can prove rightfull ownership of the notebook. The only other way is to maybe find a motherboard for the T22 on Ebay or somewhere and hope it too is not password protected and then replace the motherboard. Of course you could just try to keep guessing the password however the notebook will only take a few wrong passwords, then it will lockout all attempts for 10-15 minutes. The security is is one of the coolest features of thinkpad notebooks, if the security features are enabled, the notebook is pretty useless as the hard drive will never work with anything else as it is protected as well. The only thing that can be salvaged and sold is the memory chips and wifi card. I wish that IBM would make a security sticker of some form to say this as then thinkpads would never be taken as it is not worth the effort.

Hopefully everything will workout for you and you can get your money back, if you used a credit card it should not be too difficult to contest any charges on your account for this.

    Good Luck
