I've heard that I need to make a set 3 recovery disks before I start doing much to my laptop. If so how do I go about doing this? Is there another thread on here describing how to do it?

look in the thinkvantage folder under the start menu.
you should see "create recovery disks"

i recommend you invest in acronis home or something similar, the recovery disks sometimes do not work. most people end up doing a clean install, then using driveimage or acronis to make their own recovery disks. highly recommended.
