There always are reasons when a company sells its products with any discounted price or promotion code. For example, there had been a rumor that Dell sold its 700m with $750 coupon at the end of quarter to polish its quarterly reports to stakeholders.
Wonder why Levono has tried to sell current Thinkpads, even T43 which is still the best one in the market, with huge discounts such as "Manager's Picks" which offer over -$600.
What is your opinion? Is Levono trying to get rid of its inventory and preparing for Yonah-based systems or Vista-ready systems? Then, is it a good timing to buy a new T series now?

IBM has always had really expensive laptops, and with the shift of ownership they have probably wanted to keep sales up between ownership. That and they probably could discount them without taking a loss on the sales.

Could be that...or it could be typical holiday sales, or a system config that's overstocked, or a config with some component that's going to be replaced, or a bunch of other reasons.

Bottom line is it's a good deal. Even if it's a product that's being refreshed with new tech (processor, chipset, MOBO, etc.), you're still getting a Thinkpad for a good deal.

Regarding Vista, Microsoft's only guidance right now...
    System Requirements
Minimum system requirements will not be known until summer 2006 at the earliest. However, these guidelines provide useful estimates:
    • 512 megabytes (MB) or more of RAM
A dedicated graphics card with DirectX® 9.0 support
A modern, Intel Pentium- or AMD Athlon-based PC.
