My Ethernet socket is very delicate. The lightest motion would cause it to disconnect. Is this generally the case?

    No, shouldn't do that.

Have you tried different cables? Mine usually snaps in and stays connected. It's a bit wobbly in the socket but no problems with disconnects.

i just tested mines out. No issues. Might be a bad socket.

While a bad socket is possible, in my experience the usual cause of such issues is a bad cable. Fortunately that's also the easiest and cheapest to test out.

Get a new or known-good cable, try it out and post back as to your experience.

I go with the cable theory. Different RJ45 plugs can fit very differently in any RJ45 socket in my experience. Some are loose, some are tight, some are finicky some are not.
