So i have a 2.5yr old T60 and recently having a LOT of problems. yesterday when i ran a hardware scan test, it says that there was something wrong with the memory sticks. im not quite sure if they are really broken so is there a way to test if its working fine or not? the screen freezing from earlier post might have been from a same test i ran.

There is no minimum time per se...more like do it for at least a couple passes.

    Also test them individually.

That would be MemTest86+. Running that a couple of times will test your memory.

What sort of problems have you been having, and what hardware scan did you run?

Thank you for correcting that harmless typo. I don't know what we would have done without you.

thanks for the application..ill run it first thing after school today and post w/e it that happens.

@wishmaker: so what does this test do exactly? thanks!

@midnightsun: hey im sorry but i had to reboot my laptop due to some strange crash that i never recovered from so i dont remeber. it was one of Thinkvantage support softwares i believe. i think it has to do w/ my memory stick. i left on sudden attack (kinda like Counter Strike) game on for about 2 hrs and the part where my memory stick goes got extreamly burning hot. then it crashed when i exit out from it. the end.

Memtest is a very nifty tool allowing you to check RAM sticks. It will run tests, from simple ones to very complex. Long story short, it will put some proper math in the memory. If the memory is faulty, results will be corrupted and the program will record this.

    1. Download from here.
    2. Burn the iso image with nero, etc.
    3. Reboot, set computer to boot from disc.
    4. Run all tests.
    5. If problems are found, remove one memory stick and run the procedure again.
    6. Maybe on stick is faulty and not both.
