How to tell what kind of LCD they gave me?

    Hi all,

I posted here a few weeks ago about my problems with connectivity with my newly-purchased x61s. To cut a long story short: I downgraded to XP, which helped with most of the connection issues. However, the grays on my screen display in blotchy lighter and darker patches. This only happens with internet browsers--Explorer and Firefox.

They asked me to check whether the problem persisted on an external monitor; it did. (Indicating that it wasn't an LCD issue.) I was advised by Customer Service that this indicated a hard drive crash, so they insisted I send it in immediately. (I wanted to wait since these last two weeks were particularly critical workwise).

The long and the short of it is: after 2 weeks without a laptop, I got it back. No notes except a check mark next to "Replaced display/LCD." Not only are the patches still there, but this screen is completely washed out and much duller than my old one. (It was an Ultralight.) I suspect they substituted a cheaper screen. Can someone help me figure out what kind of screen I have on this thing?

Also, any tips for what to do next? Beyond frustrated here.

    Thanks.

    Hi zephyrus--

Thanks--saw that link on another thread, but I thought it just detected what shipped with your machine. Can it detect the current parts? (For instance, the new crappy LCD?)

Well, isn't that what you're after? To see what screen came with your laptop? Look for the FRU code and just google it.

And not all Samsung screens are *that* bad. I have a few pictures of it in my sig link.

No. What I want to figure out is what they replaced my LCD (which was fine--great, even) with when it was "repaired". The replacement LCD from EZ-Serve sucks, and came with no documentation whatsoever. I don't think it's even an Ultralight.

You can use PCwizard to get the info about your notebook when you receive it.

Try Everest trial (older version are free with some limited features). In the Minitor section, go into monitor and you will find (perhaps) more intersting informations. This should look like this :
