Well that kinda sums it up.
I intend to connect my hard drive to another computer by means of a SATA cabinet with USB connection to scan for some malware which has infected the computer. However, upon flipping over my laptop, I can't seem to make out what to do to extricate the hard drive, as the backside is confusing as hell.
No manual came with the laptop, so I have no way of checking one such out for advice.

I believe the hard drive screw is in the front right (front left when turned over). You have to remove one screw basically. I would search Lenovo's support site for the T500/W500 manual, it shows instructions for removing the hard drive.

Go to the Lenovo listing of Hardware Maintenence Manuals, and you'll have all the information you'll ever need about the T500.
Hard drive replacement is very very simple. Just remove the single screw below the right palm rest, at the very edge. The piece of plastic comes off, and slide the hard drive out. -
