    Hello there,

My hard disk now has only 2 GB of disk space available as I did full backup of my system 3 months back. This led to slow performance of my laptop too. Recently I bought Maxtor 160 GB USB powered external HD and want to delete existing backed up files from my computer HD. Or if possible want to copy backup files to external drive and delete from computer HD so that I have enough space to work with.

Does anyone know how to remove or delete existing backup files from my laptop? One more question, if I restore all files from my existing ,back up copy does the backup source files is also removed? Please help! Thanks in advance!!

    Here it is:

The Rescue and Recovery(TM) program enables you to delete the backup files previously saved to a device, but deleting existing backups destroys valuable protection against data loss.

You should think through the following considerations before deleting a backup:

Does the data contained in the backup exist anywhere else?
If the data contained in a backup does not exist anywhere else, it is not advisable to delete the backup.

Have you archived the existing backup files from the device?
If a copy of this backup does not exist, your backed-up data is still at risk.

If a copy of this backup does not exist, do you want to copy the backup to a removable medium, such as CD or DVD?
Copying the backup to a removable medium provides redundant protection against an operating-system failure or hard drive failure.

You should think through the following considerations before deleting all backups:

Has your computer operating system, applications, or settings changed since your base backup was taken?
If your system has changed drastically, it is a good idea to reset the base image.

Does a back up operation take a long time to complete?
If it takes a long time to complete a backup operation, it might be useful to reset the base backup. This improves backup performance and saves storage space.

Another reason to delete all of your backups is if you intend to uninstall the Rescue and Recovery program.

To delete a backup, do the following:

From the Rescue and Recovery main window, click Advanced and select Delete backups from the drop-down menu.

Select the device that contains the backups that you want to delete from the drop-down menu.

Select the backups that you want to delete by marking the appropriate check boxes on the list of backups. If you choose to delete an older backup, subsequent backups must also be deleted and will be selected automatically. The amount of saved hard disk drive storage space might not match the size of the deleted files.

Note: Selections made on this interface apply to all scheduled backup operations and devices. Other devices will synchronize with the hard drive during the next backup operation.

    Click Delete.

    Click Yes to continue.

Note: If you delete all backups, the Rescue and Recovery program prompts you to take another base backup after the current backups are deleted. Deleting all backups enables you to reset the base backup, to reduce the storage space used on the hard disk, and to improve backup performance
