I received my G530 (Model 444625U with Win XP) a few days ago, discovered that Access 2007 breaks my Access 2003 apps (I didn't enter an Office product code), and now I want to remove Office 2007. I found this Lenovo article about removing Office 2007 ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-69040) and followed it but all the Office apps are alive and well. Lenovo support said they couldn't help and gave me a MS phone number to call (will call later today).
1. Lenovo sold me a computer that contains software (Office 2007) that I can't use and that prevents me from installing a version of Office that I can use, and will offer no support re fixing that problem. I consided that very poor support.
2. Any experience here with this issue?

Can't you just uninstall it using Add or Remove programs in control panel? I uninstalled the office 2007 that way.
-
Actually I don't know if that's the best way. It seems to me that there is a program in program files/msoffice (or maybe office) for removing all of office. The Add/Remove is good but it does not do well knowing what to do with your data.

Nope, that didn't work. I followed the instructions in that Lenovo article (link in message above) and removed all those things. They went away from the Add/Remove list but Office 2007 still is in the Start menu and still works.
-
Well you, with 2007 being the latest, I have next to no experince taking it out but I have taken a bunch of earlier versions ont the way i have told you.
-Renee -
Do you mean this: "It seems to me that there is a program in program files/msoffice (or maybe office) for removing all of office."
If so, I'd appreciate a few more specifics.
Thanks!

1. If Lenovo hadn't removed the ability for Rescue and Recovery to do a "custom" factory reinstall then problems like this one wouldn't exist. You could simply go into Rescue and Recovery, select "custom factory restore", and deselect Office 2007 (as well as any other unwanted programs). Shame on Lenovo for valuing corporate voices over customer voices.
2. This will solve your problem:

Thanks, Jackboot. However, the first thing I noticed about that MS article was: "We recommend that you do not use this utility with 2007 Office system products."
The article then has a link to article 928218 for uninstalling Office 2007. But that article says "Use this method only if the Add or Remove Programs method did not work for you. Using this method does not completely uninstall the 2007 Microsoft Office system. After you use this method, you can reinstall the 2007 Microsoft Office system." But I need to completely get rid of Office 2007 so I can install Office 2003.

Or this one will. I used Search to find it. I don't bother with the memorization bit because it's simple.
http://www.ask.com/bar?q=how+do+you...ab=1&u=http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218 Actually Add/Remove does work. It didn't used to. -
Thanks again, Renee. I've seen taht article and the part that stops me is the "Using this method does not completely uninstall the 2007 Microsoft Office system. After you use this method, you can reinstall the 2007 Microsoft Office system." I need to have Office 2007 completely uninstalled so I can install Office 2003.

reinstall your OS.
-
It came with Win XP installed but not with a Win XP CD. It has recovery files but using them would recreate the original install including Office 2007 (so I've been told).
-
cant you call lenovo to get them to send you a replacement cd.
if not cant it be done to make the pc burn the recovery cd.
im confident that either one will be doable for sure.
are you sure they install the office for you or that it is there but to install is an option? I've seen some manufacturers do that. i.e. you buy a computer with a packaged deal with software but its not exactly installed. you'd have to go and install it by clicking on i -
I called them. They said no help from them; gave me a MS phone number.
The recovery CD would have the original install on it, including Office 2007 (trial version).
Office 2007 was not an option. It's a trial version and it's pre-installed.
-
its a microsoft product. if microsoft made it harder to uninstall a product then prob only they can answer it
i would get the reinstall cd anyway
anyway it sounds to me like its a user related issue. what exactly cant you do right now? I cant see why it would be a problem uninstalling a software and installing another one. If after the uninstall of 2007 and the install of 2003 is prevented cause they say you have a newer version already, it means there are prob registries still on your comp you need to delete. You can easily find that out I guess either from a microsoft office help forum or frm their reps who can tell you how to go delete them so you can install 2003.
but you said you tried uninstalling and the applications are still there? well that doesnt seem to happen from my experience. Especially the uninstall from a microsoft product. They at the very least will remove the active programs. They will leave registry keys and stuff but the actual programs should be gone. -
Like I said, this is totally Lenovo's fault for bending to corporate pressures to remove the "custom factory restore" option in R&R. I wish folks would raise some hell in the hopes that Lenovo would give back some power to their customers and allow to selectively remove crapware installed at the factory.
But anyway...that doesn't solve your problem.
Are you sure that your office 2007 installation has the most recent service pack and all updates? Maybe it is missing some update that would allow your access 2003 files to work correctly. -
I think I uninstalled the 2007 after I installed the 2000 version. I used the Add or Remove programs in control panel. Later I saw the 2007 somewhere again (maybe in the start menu--don't remember), so I went to the Program Files and deleted the 2007 folder, and also the 2007 from start menu. Now I don't see 2007 anywhere any more, so I assume it's all gone.
How to remove Office 2007 from my G530?
