How do I prevent the X230 from turning on whenever I open the lid? So far, I can only find information of how to prevent system hibernation when closing the lid.

If you are running Lenovo's Power Manager software, switch to the advanced view and under each power plan you can select "events", there you can select from a drop down box what you want to happen when you close the lid.
