Hi. I just want to pop my lenovo open and put some high quality AS5 on the cpu and gpu. Also just to have a look at the neat components.
Also...the cpu sits on a socket right? i hope the pricks at lenovo didnt solder it. I would like to upgrade in the future.

It is a T500 btw.

I don't have the link handy, but if you search the web (google) for T500 Hardware Maintenance Manual you'll find a PDF with very detailed instructions for getting any just about anything in the T500.

Are you having cooling issues? Or do you just want to do it for kicks? I am not too sure on the heatsinks that lenovo uses but you should not apply AS5 to EVERY heatsink. The viscosity is very important compared to the finish on the heatsink surfaces. Though I have heard others doing this on past thinkpads...and actually the heatsinks are probably pretty high quality considering the density of a laptop.

I don't see the point in replacing already the TIM on your Thinkpad.
Is it overheating, if your gaming a lot at most the decrease of temps will be at load, and negligible if you don't stress that much your Thinkpad.
I don't know if the processors on the T500 can be undervolted using RMClock but I'd go with that route. If you're now having overheating issues I would not recommend replacing the grease since it will already void your warranty.
How to pop open cover to expose cpu?
