    How to permanently disable the touch pad on a Lenovo Thinkpad?

    I can do it temporarily by going to control panel>mouse>ultranav and unchecking the "enable trackpad."

    However it reenables on any boot.

    If this is for your W520 boot into BIOS then click on config>> Keyboard/Mouse >> Touchpad >> Disable.

    Don't forget to press F10 when exiting BIOS to save the settings. If it is for your X220 then the instructions should be valid for that model as well.

    I pulled the cable from the touch pad that connects to the motherboard.

    Does doing that have some extra advantage over simply turning it off in the BIOS?
