I have the S12 VIA Nano Netbook with Chrome graphics. I have it in the original config with XP Home, Nano U2250, 1GB RAM with 256MB shared with the graphics card.

I've been very disappointed with flash video performance (youtube) on it and was wondering if you have any suggestions on improving it.

Even 480p videos suck and dont run that smooth. I can play non flash videos up to 720p but not flash. I use the Google Chrome browser.

    Tried these so far:
    • Up to date drivers for all components
    • Upgraded flash to 10.x but unfortunately chrome still not supported for hardware acceleration.
    • Uninstalled most apps/utils to conserve RAM & CPU

    Thinking of:
    • Upping RAM to the max 3GB
    • Upgrade to Windows 7
    • What else....?
    Your thoughts and suggestions welcome.

    Thanks.

I think you're just out of luck. My wife's Atom N270 doesn't do well on YouTube either; Netflix streaming is better but after a while (when it gets hot) it will start to stutter. And there's likely no video acceleration for your video chipset on that machine; it's not dissimilar in performance-class to the Intel 945G graphics on my wife's netbook (which is correspondingly abysmal.)

Adding more system ram isn't going to help unless you're already running out of memory. Win7 isn't going to be able to help you either. The performance limit you're hitting is that of your processor...

I too had trouble with 720p flash videos on my old computer but after awhile i managed to play them.

First, download the Opera browser, i tested 5 browsers and out of all of them opera was the smoothest running as far as flash.

Next, in order to free up the ram/proccessor more download this program.. Game Booster - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
It turns off non-essential windows processes and non-essential proccesses you have running.

When I was researching the S12, I read in a lot of reviews that the Via Nano processor was much better than the Atom. I guess its not as good. Thanks.

I'll give it a shot. Also, haven't used Opera in a while. Thanks.
