I constantly hiberante my new T61 and wake it up for my work.

One annoying thing is that each time after waking it up from hibernation, I have to manually to get wireless connection. How can I make the computer auto-detect and connect? (there is no such annoying thing with my Dell 9300)

I know it must be configurable somewhere, but simply cannot figure it out.

    Thanks for your help!

Which wireless card did you choose? Intel? I have thinkpad a/b/g in my t61 and the reconnection is instant. I had the same problem with my old t42 which has intel wireless inside.

Just set your machine to use a static IP address within the range of IP adresses provided by your router. it will connect instantly every time.

Thanks for the tip. I am not sure this tip will be convenient for me. I often travels. In order to detect wireless connections in my hotel naighborhood, do I have to set my computer to non-static IP address?

I believe read a post and a guy talked about changing the power profile or something, but I simply cannot figure it out.

There got to be a more intutitive way.

    Cheers.

P.S. I have Intel wireless card.

yes, you would have to set it back to dynamic (assuming that is norm for most hotels).

if you want to maintain dynamic IP addressing, another option is using ipconfig at a command prompt after resuming from hibernate. works in XP, i dunno anything about Vista:

clear old IP address issued by router:
    ipconfig /release

request a new IP address from the router:
    ipconfig /renew

or, you can simply reboot the computer and accomplish the same thing.

Thanks for your info. The ways you recommend are what I am doing now. Manual, not convenient. I want auto-reconnect. My Dell 9300 does auto-reconnect.

IBM/Lenovo must have a more intutitive way we are not aware of.

    Could somebody help here?

    Cheers!

I have the intel wireless chip and mine auto detects and connects to four different networks. Do you have all of the wireless access points saved in your location profiles?

    >>saved in your location profiles

I have not done this before. Mind giving me a brief description of how?

    Many thanks!

Alright, when you find a wireless network using thinkvantage (pressing the blue button and going to find wireless networks) there should be an option to save that location once you have connected to it once it's saved it should auto connect. It's been a while since I added a network but I am going to try to find one and go through the process. Give it a shot let me know if it works.

EDIT: I just added a new network and it seemed that after I hit save it pretty much just did it for me, as long as you save the networks I think you will be ok. There is an option though that may be of use to you go to:

    Thinkvantage button->Wireless and Networking->Set location profiles->open access connections->configure->Location switching

and that will enable you to change which location you try to connect to first.

Hrmm... I don't like the idea of using another wireless manager just so I can recover from reboots and standby's. Every other laptop I have had before has had no issues recovering from standby.

I know this has been discussed before, but using WZC, I have to repair (release/renew) every other time I reboot or come out of standby. I checked Intel's site and lenovo is referencing the latest drivers, so there's nothing newer for me to try. Perhaps a downgrade might yield better results.
