You've found the HK version of the site I've been looking for in the US for a year. For some reason, Lenovo thinks we all want to customize and therefore we cannot see pricing on prebuild systems (without calling and quoting the tabook). If I'm wrong, someone please correct me and point me to the right place.

It depends on where you are living I guess. Lenovo USA recently has quite a few deals on Thinkpad. Usually you can get 300-500 discount under the official price, which is already much lower than the price in other countries. So if you are living in the U.S., keep your eyes on websites like dealsea.com or fatwallet.com, as they usually have information about the new discount coupon quickly after the coupon is valid :D . btw, there is this 20% discount on 4:3 14" T series which will expire by the end of today.
If you live outside of the U.S., you are very likely going to pay a much higher price for a Thinkpad. The HK student models are cheaper than the price for same models in say northern Europe, but still much higher (50%-100%) than the price in the U.S.
