    I have a X220.

How do I disable the fingerprint reader when the computer is turned off ?

I noticed it stays on all the time and likely drains the battery.

Id rather turn it on with the power button and swipe at the windows login screen.

I checked the fingerprint software settings, nothing there.

The BIOS fingerprint section has an option "pre-desktop authentication".

Tried setting it to disable, won't work.

Go to Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software > Setting > More Setting, you can switch off the light. I don't think it switch off the device.

Yea, doesn't make any sense. I don't wanna use fingerprint if it drains the battery all the time......

all you have to do is un-check the Power On checkbox above the finger(s) you enrolled

open the fingerprint software, click the settings icon, and uncheck 'use fingerprint scan instead of power-on button'.

you might need to set this option in the FPR using a non-UEFI installation.   my guess would be that you somehow enabled this feature before wiping the system to go UEFI.

frankly, this is why i no longer use UEFI.   it's an absolute PITA and of no benefit to boot times or overall system speed (at least in my experience).
