    Hi,

In my country, it's only possible to buy preconfigured Lenovo Thinkpads. So how to tell if the one I have my eye on has the LED backlit display? Seems like it affects battery performance so it is very important for me to get that option.

For example this link which just says that it has a 14.1" TFT. I have mailed several dealers but (as usual) they dont know anything that isnt in the specs. Is there any way to determine the LED option?

    Noone knows?
I'm kinda stuck on this since I cannot match any of the T500 model numbers on the Danish supplier sites to those from the Lenovo site - for example I have model number "NL34LMD" but its nowhere to be found - thus I dont know if this model has the LED backlit display or not...?

Run a search. This topic has been discussed quite a bit. If I can find any links for you, I'll come back and post them.

Only the WXGA+ screens can be LED. The one you linked is WXGA therefore not LED.

This laptop seems to be the exact model number (Lenovo Thinkpad T400-2767), and has a 1280x800 screen, which is not LED.

Ok so not all but some WXGA+ displays are LED backlit? How do I check what WXGA+ displayes are LED backlit, for example looking at the Lenovo list of Thinkpads here?

Sadly all the models on that page have CCFL backlights (if you click on "more information" on each model it says " Screen illumination: CCFL Backlight").

What you want to do is look up a model in the ThinkPad tabook. This will give you the Lenovo part numbers for all of the preconfigured models. You find one with a WXGA+ LED that suits your needs (e.g. 2767-P9U w/ WXGA+ LED, P8600, Switchable graphics, 160GB 7200RPM, DVD±RW, Wi-Fi 5100, 9 Cell, Vista Business 32) and find a reseller that has has that model in stock.

If the retailers specs differ from the Tabook, you should trust the Tabook.

Yes I saw that - unfortunately this probably means that LED backlit Lenovos arent available in Denmark - I cant believe how many obstacles there are purchasing a Lenovo in Denmark. I have the cash, I know what I want, but I have to constantly lower my desired specs :( - and now this...

Do you have any idea of what the lack of LED means in terms of Battery and especially loudness? I will Google this, but despite whats been said before I havent been able to find any good links about this LED versus non-LED issue yet...

EDIT: Well at least I cant find any references that indicates what the effect of LED has on heat (noise) and battery consumption. That LED should be preferred is all over, but for example a review/test of a CCFL display would have been nice - especially when a LED option isnt valid for my country.

I have run a search - and come up empty. I can search what LED backlight is, what benefit it has. But I could not find any information that enabled me to tell which Thinkpad on the Lenovo site had LED display. Now it seems that the reason is that no (zero, 0) LED displays are offered for my country. Go figure...

But I would still like any link that compares indepth (not just pros/cons but actual comparable numbers) what I miss in especially consumption and loudness if I order one of those non-LED Thinkpads.

I don't have any data regarding either, but there will be a noticeable power consumption difference. There will not be any difference in loudness, though. I also think the LED screen version of the T400 is slightly thinner than the CCFL version, although I'm not positive.

I think you can import a T400 w/ LED from Germany, although I don't know what kind of taxes and/or warranty problems this may cause.

LED has a couple of primary advantages. Slightly lower power usage, increased brightness, reduced depth (I don't think the T400 LED is any thinner however), brighter whites, deeper blacks (LEDs can turn off part of the screen rather than just dimming the backlight).

There should not be any difference in noise (the CPU/fan produces noise, not the screen), and I doubt the difference in power usage is more than 1 watt (possible Δ1 hour on a 9 cell battery).

none, even though denmark doesn't have the euro (yet). like most western european countries denmark is part of the efta (european free trade association). prizes do always include tax, he'll pay german tax but nothing else
