After I repasted T60p, CPU idle temp drops from 65C to about 48C, however the GPU is still at a pathetic 64-68C at idle. During video stress test, GPU temp reaches 86C after only 3 minutes, while CPU is sitting at a comfortable 57C, lol

    Any ideas?

I'm assuming you have the discrete graphics since it's the T60p... it's a known issue that the T61p nvidia gpu chips ran hot and often failed prematurely due to that. I'm not sure about the ATI ones in the T60p. You could underclock/volt it (I have no experience doing this), or get a fan controller program (I prefer TPFC) to force the fan on earlier at lower thresholds. Also you have Active cooling enabled in your power plans right, as opposed to Passive?

there is the penny mod you can do to try to lower the GPU temp by a few degrees. But it is a well known fact that the ATI Firegl card ran hot. What you describe sounds about right for a T60p.

Well, controlling fan speed won't help because the GPU is positioned farther away from the fan exhaust then the CPU --> very bad design.

Another reason is that there is no direct die-to-copper contact on the GPU =(

Hey there. I've had a T60p a while ago, and did quite a bit to help reduce heat output. I haven't heard of the V5250 having many issues(especially when compared to the Nvidia cards on the T61/p), although they will run hot. Temps in the 90C+ range weren't uncommon whilst gaming. You might want to read a bit on the thread I created on the Thinkpads.com forums a few years ago; it may give you some ideas on modifying the heat sink. IIRC I actually modified my sink by using thermal adhesive(like thermal paste but meant to bond parts together) to 'glue' a copper plate in place of the thermal pad. FWIW, my T500 actually has direct die contact with the copper and not a thermal pad.

I found a great utility called ATI Tray Tools that allows user to adjust GPU and GPU RAM clock. =)
