My previous thinkpad had the beautiful titnaium lid which was impervious to anything. I could have used Comet.

This T61 I now have has a soft-touch plastic that I can tell is going to be more tricky. I'm wondering what to use so that I don't end up leaving smears or stains. I'm not going to be super anal about keeping it spotless, but a couple times a year I'd like to give it a good cleanup.

When mine starts getting a little messy I actually just use a Clorox wipe. It cleans it nicely and doesn't damage anything

Slightly damp a microfiber cloth with some rubbing alchohol diluted with water then wipe the top of the lid and dry. Works wonders.
