What should I use to clean it (the cover of the monitor)?

The material seems so fragile that I'm afraid I'll damage something...

A damp paper towel usually works.

I just cleaned mine yesterday and now it looks brand new. Get a sponge or a towel and soak it in dishwasher soap water. Then wipe the top of your lid with it. It should be all soapy. Then after just wipe it with plain water. Then white pat it dry with paper towels or just a dry towel. It'll look brand new.

I wouldnt use windex.....that amonia can't be good on any finish!

I would use a very mild detergent, or even car wash soap(which is great because it doesnt strip wax), and dilute about one teaspoon with a cup of water....use a microfiber towel and dampen it in the solution and scrub..........rinse the towel out, run it under some water and wipe all the soap away

preheat your oven to 350 degrees and place your thinkpad on a cookie sheet or wax paper.......pat dry with a paper towel.

JUST KIDDING about the last part!!!!!!!!!!!!
