How to check whether a slot is free for RAM upgrade? I have ordered 1GB RAM 1 dimm to make sure that I have an empty slot. Now, I need to check whether I really got 1 dimm or 2 dimm.

Is there a way to check it without opening the laptop?

Check what it says in your manual or google the specs for your exact system. Usually it tells you whether the ram is made up of 1 or 2 sticks.

Check out a program called CPU-Z. It can tell you all about your processor and RAM without you having to open up your notebook.

Don't be afraid to open it though. It is just the little door on the bottom of your computer (usually with all ibm/lenovo's). It is only held on by 1 screw (depending on model). If there is no card in there then you know there is one under the keyboard. One is easily accessible and the other is not as easy.

The Z and T series have both slots under the palmrest/touch pad.

As mentioned, CPU-Z is the best way to find out w/o opening up your computer.
