    Hi all,

I would like to know how to change video size for my R51e, actually it takes 64mb from sustem memory (512mb total), I want to change this amount of memory to 32mb as I run some heavy applications on my laptop such as MySQL and Postgres Database Servers.

    Thanks for your help.

    I believe its a minimum of 64.

Get more ram, its not that expensive.

Are you sure, because I don't see how to change the video memory amount, even if I want to increase it to 128 (for exemple), so the question is very simple : how can I change my video memory size ?

The laptop can handle up to 2gb of RAM, according to the manufacturer's document, but it has already 256mb on board and only one slot available

If you have only 256MB of memory you need more anyway.

No, actually I have 512mb (the shop give me another 256mb for free).

No more memory slot left on my laptop, so I'd like to decrease the amount of video memory to 32mb instead of 64mb, 'cause I don't play game, I just use the laptop for testing my web applications.

Seems to me, you are trying to squeeze another 32 mb out of what you think is system memory dedicated to the video card? Don't bother. Just by more ram. It's likely the video card only takes the system memory as needed. Besides, 32 mb is not enough to make a significant difference in performace anyway.

Well, I want to do the opposite of that. I have 128 shared video memory and 2 GB ram. Was wondering if it's possible to increase the video memory to 256.

Any suggestions? or it's not possible at all.

    Thanks.

Well, i know it's a good idea to put more memory on the machine, you're right.

But I don't think I really need 64mb of video memory to a 1024x768 momitor, even in 32bits of colors, any video chip with just 16mb could do the same thing (I did say I don't play game with the laptop :) )

My old laptop Acer Extensa can display 800x600x65K colors with only 2mb of video memory.

So for me, I'm wasting at least 64-16=48mb of RAM.

I think 512mb of RAM is a right choice, because Windows will take all available memory and when I turn off my laptop in hibernating mode it would take a long time to finish (actually with 512mb of RAM I have to wait about 2-3 minutes).

I also install Linux CentOS 4 on the machine and it only take less than 300mb of RAM, according to the system monitoring tool, the swap remains unused.
