    Hello,

First time poster here. I have a T61 and the 2504 dock. I had never used the DVI port on the dock until yesterday, when I thought I'd try connecting the T61 to my new 40" flat screen TV.

Using the DVI port, the display appeared on the TV in 1280x1024 resolution, which was not enough to fill the screen. I could not figure out any way to change the resolution. Using the VGA port, I am able to fill the screen by adjusting the resolution using Control Panel > Display > Settings, but this does not seem to work with DVI. The external monitor shows as Not Active when connected via the DVI cable.

So how is DVI resolution adjusted?

    Thanks for any info,
    Bill

Try closing the lid and restarting the computer (if you have external kb/mouse). After that see how the settings change, it should comprehend existence of DVI.

    Hi Bill,

You didn't say whether your T61 has Intel or Nvidia graphics. If Intel, you should have a "Intel graphics" (forget the exact name) widget in your system tray that you can click on to change display settings; you could try that. Nvidia probably has something similar (look in Start :programs as well as system tray).

HDTVs can be trickier to set up than LCDs meant to be used only as computer monitors. Recently when connecting a T60 with ATI graphics to an HDTV I found it necessary to use EnTech PowerStrip to read the HDTV's EDID and properly set up some resolutions. PowerStrip gives you many options, but can also be overkill. I'd recommend trying it only if you can't get the Windows / ThinkPad / Intel / NVidia display setting utilities to do what you want.

    Best regards,
    Frank

Thanks much. Both of those tips worked. The Intel widget even has a setting for an HDTV monitor.
