I've decided that the best way to pick a notebook computer is to check the forums for each manufacturer at a site like this one. Check the first couple of pages of each manufacturer's forum and see what the posts are like. If it's full of "problem with this" and "problem with that," that manufacturer is ruled out. On the other hand, if it's full of posts from people excited about that particular brand or just asking innocuous questions, you've got a winner.

    Just my observation. :)

What's your point? That you can read? Lol jk but thats what you should do whenever buying a $1000+ product...check what other people are saying.

I think the best way is to read the official reviews, and then read the average rating from users. Usually I have several tabs opened, including amazon, cnet, epinions, futureshop.ca, and a couple more. Then ('then' takes a loooong time) I narrow it to a couple of products and start reading the forums about them and then I post my questions. Then I narrow it to 2-3 products and post some more questions, consider the prices and specs, etc.

And then that's when people start getting irritated because of the # of posts I have made on the forum, and that's when I also get bitter and start discussing other things than computers (like right now :D)

Oh and I don't know if you're aware, but it took me a week before I noticed that there was a "notebook database" tab on the top of the website. It's really useful.

That's what I always do as well when I purchase anything. In this particular case, the T61 was too new to find much information from reliable sources. The review on this site was a great aid.

I've been hanging around these forums off and on for years and never noticed it. :) Thanks!
