I've ordered a Z61t that's scheduled to arrive in a month from now. In preparation for its arrival, are there certain things I should get rid of as soon as I get it? I was thinking I should make recovery CDs, and believe there are instructions on the Lenovo page for that. I have my own antivirus and firewall software, so will remove that. Are there any other programs that Lenovo bundles that are useless that should be removed? Any info would be great. Does the thinkvantage recovery do the same thing as making the recovery CDs? Another question, I ordered with XP home, but have XP pro at home. If I want to upgrade to XP pro, is there anything special I should do prior to this? Thanks.

Lenovo doesn't really include a lot of junkware/bloatware on their machines. The thinkvantage utility will allow you to create backup cds/dvds. I don't think that there is anything special you need to do before upgrading to XP Pro, but I'd advise doing a clean install rather than an upgrade. The wait must be killing you!

It sure is. I ordered 2 days ago and have about 30 days of waiting. I'm about to die after waiting 2 days! I did call them today to ask if I can change something to my order and they said my laptop is being "packed" already. I was excited at first, thinking it might ship in about a week, but when I asked the rep, they said it'd be about 2-3 weeks before shipping. I then said, "It takes that long to build? I thought it'd be about a week from when you start." He said "Yes." So, my 30 day wait will probably be the full 30 days, even though my laptop is already being "packed."

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it comes sooner. There is very little boatware on ThinkPads. Even my lower end R60 only had Google installed and a couple items on the desktop. That is it.

Personally, I always reinstall my os when I buy a computer. This is exactly what I will do when my x60 shows up. You could give de-crapifier a try. It's made for dells, but it also works on other brands. As far as the Lenovo programs, I would look up each one on google and here. Better yet, try each program out yourself. You may find some of them useful. I am assuming the only pre-installed software thats any good would be ones for wireless connections and power management. FYI, I have never liked any pre-installed software that I have used, except for what comes with ASUS mobos. Hope that helps.
