Do you find it inconvenient to carry a laptop with you? The inconvenience seems to be that since it's a valuable I have to keep an eye on it all the time, and must pay special attention when I use a locker.

I own a 3lb X200 so I find it extremely easy to carry it around with me. It actually weighs less than most of my textbooks. No locker here, just a backpack strapped to my back.

The laptop I have now isn't worthy of carrying. Once I get my new one I'll be carrying it all the time everywhere.

I've got two (Latitude E6400s)- one for business and one for personal use. The business one travels with me all day, every day....and sleeps in my glove box most nights! :D

    I'm dreaming of the day when I can afford a ThinkPad X200s (1.86GHz SL9400 & SSD)...or an X301, if the 1.4GHz SU9400 can keep up with my multi-tasking needs!

I carry my X series tablet (presently a 200) daily. It rides with me through my 12-14 hour days in a waterfield sleeve, tucked inside a timbuk2 messenger bag. Though slightly larger than my X60 tablet, I like the X200T very much.

    Cheers,
    ~tdr.

I carry mine all the time. I carry it in a messenger bag with my stuff. Usually, if I need to go to the bathroom, I ask someone to watch it.

If I'm in public with mine it's usually at the airport. I've learned to negotiate the restroom with my messenger bag across my shoulder...it's quite a skill, actually! Then again, it's not like I'd sit the bag down in a restroom....ick!

Yesterday I left my laptop disguised as a dog on the sidewalk to go into a store for 3 minutes and when I came back it was still there.

If I take my bag with me, I just use a stall and use the coat hanger to hang my bag.

Both, but mainly work. When I'm not writing C++ programs, annotating PDFs with Bluebeam (THE best PDF software there is), or creating network topology maps, I browse the web and waste my time reading BS. :D

Ditto. If the stall doesn't have a coat hanger, I'll urgently find one that does. There's no way my messenger bag would ever touch a stall floor--I'd burn it first.

    Cheers,
    ~tdr.

My ThinkPad usually only leaves the house for weekend trips and vacations. I'd probably take it with me for work if I was doing more independent contracting right now, but I don't have much of a use in bringing my T500 to the office.

:D :D :D How did you do that?? Make it an ugly dog that no one would want!

This being NBR forum, it should be no surprise that more than 40% says they carry the laptop every day. :)

i voted quite often. I go to school and bring my laptop to my girl's house to study so that's pretty much 5-6 days a week.

I always have mine along in the car, too. I pull over to use it, of course...but I don't know how I lived without Mobile Broadband! The glove box is deep enough to hide it, too.

I voted "only when you travel". I use my 15.4 inch T61 as my desktop replacement, and it very rarely leaves my desktop. When it does, it will be for our family vacations only. I'm done with school, otherwise I'd of bought a X300/ X301 as my "every-day computing machine", and leave my T61 at home. However, for my use, the T61 is perfect.

I chose "Only when I travel", and in truth I travel far less than I once did. Additionally, my work is now done almost entirely on an analytical server.

I have a question about the so-called laptop locks. I saw what they look like, a cable with a combination lock at the end. But how do you attach it to a laptop? I looked at my Thinkpad and have no idea where a lock can be attached to it.

There is a Kensington lock slot on the left or right side of your ThinkPad, depending on which model line you have. If you take a look at the depicted systems, near the battery, you'll see the Kensington lock slot:

    Hope this helps.

Is it that small vertical slot on the right hand side in your picture, just next to the battery, with a double-circle-like figure? If so, yes I found it on mine, too :D Thanks! :)

Yes, that's the slot to which you'd connect a cable lock. I'm glad to hear the picture was helpful.
