The only time I burn DVDs on my laptop is to make backups. Otherwise my desktop has two heavy duty DVDs.

I use mine all the time, to back up pictures and docs as I add them. I don't like to rely on the HD not crashing on a laptop, so I sort of pretend "it could go at anytime", even though it's practically brand new.

For the small incremental backups, I'll use a DVD+RW and the Live File System that's supported by Windows. You can treat the DVD sort of an extremely slow HD (it burns really slow in this mode). But it's great for how I use it. Then once in a while I'll do more of a complete backup, either to DVD+R or to anb external HD.

On my old desktop I was willing to take a little more risk and wait longer before backing up new pictures and files that were important to me.

yes, indeed, how many times people do open their notebooks?

oh no no... how many times per day people use their coffee maker?

very deep thought although.. no doubt...

String is 3.5" when it is very cold.
Rope is 6.5" when conditions are just right.
