I am looking to buy the Thinkpad R61. There is currently a 25% off discount in the Lenovo online store right now. I was wondering if I should buy the laptop online now or if I should wait for a better deal. I will need the laptop in August when I start school. Also, are there any other places I should look in addition to the Lenovo official online store for better prices? Any tips and strategies?

From what we know, the Labor Day sales are usually the biggest. Just look out for coupons to apply to your cart.

You can configure a R61 with Home Basic, WXGA+, DVD Burner, 1GB and T8100 for $660. I'd have to say that's historically pretty low. When I got my my R60 a year and a half ago with similar specs to the R61, I paid $850 and that was a great deal. I didn't see how they could go much lower, but somehow they did it. Any information you get here is probably a guess. The pricing game is tough to play. About the best you can do is watch for a while so you'll know when it's low.
