Seagate 100GB 7200RPM - 0.58 A
Hitachi 100GB 7200RPM - 1.1 A

It seems the Hitachi one (if it's 7K200 100GB model) is faster than the Seagate one's.
-
thank you. But my question is not about RAM.
-
-
what are you using to measure the amperage?
-
it says it on the HDD label. You pull the HDD out and see what it says on it. Unscrew that one screw that holds the HDD cover on the side, and pull it out. No biggie
-
oh in that case i'll check it out tomorrow, you got me curious.

Hitachi 7K200 200GB 0.8A

The thing is, we don't know whether these are steady state numbers or peak current demands or the current that the disk draws while writing. One number does not represent all of those activities.
-
well, I just bought another HDD for my laptop .. lol. I'll most likely sell my Hitachi 100gb 7200rpm one.
the new one:
Seagate 160GB 7200rpm: 0.62 A -
If you hop on seagates website you should be able to find spec sheets for the drives that give power usage for idle, sleep, use, etc.....
For example:
http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_momentus_7200_2.pdf -
yes, I saw that earlier and thought that they show only the max.start up current.
well now I see that they show the average power usage too, duh, so the current will be Watts/5
thank you
How much power is your HDD using to run ?
