Bought a T20 back in my freshman year of college for about $500'ish (that was 2004).
Had a few other plasticky laptops in between, and am now on my T61 and paid $950 for it, replaced the HD with a 160gb 7200rpm HD, which was free as I took it out of my inspiron before I sold it (and the HD was basically free in the inspiron as I bought it back when Dell debuted it and they had insane deals).
Thinking about adding 4gigs of RAM when MS releases Vista SP1 and I get around to installing Vista Business x64, so that'll add about $60 to the price.

For a few reasons. It's cheaper. The optical drive is capable of Blu-Ray. Everything else on it is pretty much the same as the T series except maybe 1mm bigger, which IMO is worth it to save some money.
