I purchased a t61p with 4gb of ram. Vista only shows 3gb, which I know is normal. How do I know, without taking the computer apart, that there is really 4gb of memory in there?

    Thanks

    Jim

Jim, try downloading "Everest Home Edition", free PC analyzing software.

People still spend that kind of money on RAM from the factory. You must be rich.

No, more like 520$. Support doesn't have anything to do with RAM. Or at least it doesn't have to do anything with RAM in my opinion. I don't see how something not working is RAM quantity related. Only Vista x86 recognizes 3Gb out of 4. People, don't get 4GB of RAM with old software technology. Get 4GB with Vista x64.

Thanks for all your feedback. I downloaded cpuz and it shows 3070 mbyets under memory. I assume this is because vista x32 only shows 3gb? However, under spd it shows 2048 mbytes in slot 1 and 2048 mbytes in slot 2. I assume then, the system that was sold to me has 4gb? Is that a correct assumption.

As for why I have 4gb, no I am not rich. I had the misfortune of order in midjuly to get my t61p. I ordered the wuxga screen, which of course has never come. I then ordered again 30 days ago, with the t7800 chip. And that hasnt come.

My t43p broke down so I went to ebay and purchased. I wanted the 15.4 with t7700 and my only option to get quickly was with 4gb of ram. So I feel somewhat foolish paying the extra money as I could have done it cheaper myself. However, with my business, I needed a new laptop and fortunately the business paid for it.

Again, thanks for all your feedback. Especially, Stallen as I used your clean install tool, it worked perfectly.

Hold down the blue ThinkVantage button, enter the BIOS, and check there. That will show you physical RAM installed.
