When I bought my previous thinkpads they always came with 3 different trackpoint caps. This time there is only one, the boring "default" one. Is it too much for Lenovo to provide two more little caps?

P.S. I rarely use the trackpoint (I use a mouse), but even just for looking, I like the cute fuzzy cap, a tiny red in the black keyboard. It is redder than the other two.

The "soft dome" (3rd in your link) has always been the default. I prefer the classic dome (1st in the link).

When I bought my X301 afew years ago, it only came with one as well (the stock one). My T61 DID come with 3 though.

not always.   the T40 (circa 2004) was the first system to get the soft dome as standard.   everything before it came with the classic dome as standard.

the T40 was the first system to include all three trackpoint styles in the shipping box.   this practice ended a couple years ago (along with the elimination of included recovery media) in an effort to save costs.

Thanks for the interesting info. How much cost could the little tiny caps incur, how much joy would it give the buyer who can get the cap that he prefers, which will encourage his loyalty to thinkpads?

save cost, or it could be Lenovo wanting you to buy them at $25 dollars.

This seller used to have black caps. I have one, but they're classic dome only. Maybe it's worth asking.

Did you get your cap from that seller? I do not really care what kind of caps, as long as they are black/blue or some dark color.

Yep, midway through the Tx00/X200 generation, Lenovo stopped including all three TrackPoint tips, since only a minority of users probably even bothered trying all three. Physical recovery media was discontinued long before I got my T500.
